Itineraries of Color Course

"Itineraries of Color" course taught at the SESC Center for Research and Training (2019). The course addresses the visual arts, cinema, architecture and textile art as privileged fields of discussion about color.

Taking up the concepts of "chromophobia" and "geography of color" from the visual arts and architecture as drivers, the culture of color is discussed in societies where it is expressed in an emphatic manner - such as Mexican, Japanese, French and Brazilian societies - as well as how the colonial history of pigments triggered a war for the control of color in Europe.

The perspective established by the course is not only that of developing a sensibility in the student's view of color, but also of reflecting on the sensory and symbolic ranges provided by the chromatic phenomenon and what it says about us in the present historical moment.
